Sir Joe Quarterman & Free Soul deliver a towering milestone of heavy Washington, D.C. funk on this essential late 1972 single. The track expertly pairs a blistering, syncopated rhythm section and sharp horn stabs with a gritty, socially conscious vocal performance that brilliantly captured the tension of urban America in the early 1970s. The song split the groove across both sides of the 7", with Part 1 climbing all the way to number 30 on the Billboard R&B chart.
